Across the nation, land-grant colleges like USU established Extension services to educate the public about the most recent advancements in agricultural research and practices, including how to best preserve food. Russell Lee’s photograph documents the spread of such knowledge and his descriptive title also calls attention to the Farm Security Administration’s experiments with collective farming. The FSA brought families together to work cooperatively on large farms as a means to combat rural poverty and promote sustainability.
